Thurles Macra member Nora Connolly is hoping to bring the Blue Jean Country Queen title back to Tipperary this June Bank Holiday weekend.
Twenty-four year old Nora from Thurles Macra na Feirme will represent North Tipperary in the 2018 Blue Jean Country Queen Festival in Athboy, Co Meath where she will compete with 21 fellow Macra members to earn the highly coveted title.
The twenty two girls contesting the event will be arriving in Athboy, Co. Meath for this year's festival on Friday 1st June. Meath Macra na Feirme have planned a huge array of events of entertainment for the entire weekend, including a Street Carnival, Bake Off, a family friendly Lark in the Park as well as weekend full of night time entertainment. Entries this year come from Macra clubs all over the country as well as representative from France.
Competitors, along with their supporters, will arrive in Athboy on Friday 1st June. From their opening interviews to until they depart on Bank Holiday Monday the will have experienced all that Athboy has to offer. On Saturday, Nora and her fellow Queens will take to the streets of Athboy during the Carnival. While on Sunday the Queens will change from fancy dress to modelling dress to formal dress all within twelve hours! There will be an “I Love The 1990s” night where Cool Chic will perform in The CU Marquee on Saturday 2 June, and Matt Leavy who plays on Sunday 5th June. Both nights will also feature dancing in TABU Nightclub and Venue.
Although fun is the name of the game Nora and the other contestants will be competing for the Blue Jean Country Queen crown. First place receives prizes to the value of €1,000, from main sponsor Athboy Credit Union, and the title of Blue Jean Country Queen 2017. The winner of 2018 Blue Jean Country Queen title will be announced at midnight on Sunday 3 June.
