Johnny Cash tribute act Get Rhythm will roll into The Source Arts Centre on Saturday, June 6th.
Replicating the classic ‘Cash, Tennessee Three, Carter Family and Carl Perkins’ line up, Get Rhythm gained a lot of media coverage whilst touring a number of Ireland’s prisons, most notably playing multiple shows in Dublin’s Mountjoy and Wheatfield prisons.
Johnny Cash himself had a well-known fondness for playing penitentiaries in the US. In 1968, ‘the Man in Black’, who cultivated a bad-boy image for himself, enhanced that reputation with a concert in Folsom State Prison, an institution that was the subject of one of his most famous and successful songs, ‘Folsom Prison Blues’.
The concert was recorded and released as a live album and it has remained one of Cash’s most popular.
Since the Irish prison tour, the eight-piece band from Cavan have toured extensively and have gained quite a large and loyal fan base.
Johnny Cash’s music has always been a huge inspiration for lead singer Paul McCann who grew up listening to his music as a young teen.
All the musicians in Get Rhythm have been performing together in various line-ups for fifteen years.
The show has successfully played at many venues and stages, including the Trailer Park at Electric Picnic.
In this exceptional show Get Rhythm pay homage to the legend that is Johnny Cash with a fantastic night’s entertainment promised.
One not to be missed!
Get Rhythm will feature at The Source Arts Centre in Thurles on Saturday, June 6th at 8pm.
