Roscrea Credit Union is delighted once again this year to be involved with the ever-popular “National Credit Unions Poster Competition”.

Young local artists up to 18 years of age and adult artists (over 18) are being invited to submit entries for this year’s competition, which was launched recently using the theme “Ireland Through My Eyes”

This theme will hopefully encourage entrants to express themselves and through art, and give a good reflection of what Credit Unions are all about.

Now in its 28th year, the competition attracts up to 50,000 entries every year. The competition, which has firmly established itself as one of the country’s leading art competitions, caters for all ages, with categories ranging from under 7 to over 18 years of age. There is also a Special Category for those with physical or intellectual disabilities.

The deadline for entry to the competition is 5.00pm on Friday November 4th. This will give schools who didn’t get a chance before mid-term to submit their entries. A special awards ceremony will take place in a few weeks time where the winners will receive some great prizes. Winning entries will then be submitted to the Chapter which is a regional body of Credit Unions that will select what entries will be submitted to Dublin for national judging. Winners, runners-up and merit award winners at national level will be presented with their prizes at a special ceremony in Dublin in early 2012 when the winning posters will be displayed at the prize-giving ceremony.

Tracy Hynes (Youth Officer) at Roscrea Credit Union said that “following on from the great success of last year’s competition we want to encourage and reward self-expression, creativity and imagination amongst all artists young and old in the community, so let’s go and get creative!.

Last year Roscrea Credit Union had a number of successful winners at regional level including Libby Carroll and Vitalik Borsak both representing Scoil Iosa Naofa Corville. The Credit Union would like to see more adults involved this year and we encourage any art groups in the area to consider getting involved.

For more information participants are encouraged to ask their teacher or contact Roscrea Credit Union on (0505)23601 or see Even if you do not have success at national level, the prizes are excellent at local and regional level, so please do have a go.

Roscrea Credit Union is affiliated to the Irish League Of Credit Unions, which represents 496 Credit Unions serving some 2.9 million members with estimated savings of approximately €11.9 billion.
