Irish singer-songwriter Mundy will appear in concert at the Tipperary Excel on Saturday, July 7th in conjunction with the grand final of the Tipperary International Song of Peace Contest.
Born in Birr Mundy moved to Dublin at just 18 years of age and began busking on Grafton Street and performing at open-mike nights at the nearby International Bar.
He is one of a number of artists to successfully make the transition from street busking to international stardom which began for him less than two years later when he signed with Sony subsidiary Epic Records.
There followed the release of his debut single To You I Bestow which was licensed for inclusion on the soundtrack for the film adaption of Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet which starred Leonardo Di Caprio and Claire Danes in the leading roles.
The soundtrack went on to sell eleven million copies. The subsequent album Jelly Legs sold 50,000 copies worldwide.
April 2002 saw the second album 24 Star Hotel released and this yielded the Irish radio hits July and Mexico, with the former quickly becoming Mundy’s best-known track. 24 Star Hotel outsold its predecessor, going double platinum in Ireland. The follow-up, Raining Down Arrows, debuted at number one in the Irish charts, achieving platinum status.
In 2006 Mundy released his first live album a CD/DVD combo entitled Live & Confused, featuring a duet on Steve Earle’s Galway Girl with accordionist Sharon Shannon, which later charted as a single. Live & Confused was certified platinum in 2007. His last Album Shuffle see’s Mundy flicking through lesser-known tracks of many of the great songwriters. Mundy recently performed for President Obama and has played support with Imelda May and Emmylou Harris.
With huge radio hits like July and Mexico, Mundy promises a great evening’s entertainment.
He will perform a 30-40 minute set at the Tipperary Excel on Saturday, July 7th as part of an evening of entertainment that is surely not to be missed.
