Eighteen All Ireland medals were won by Templemore A.C. athletes in the National masters Finals in Athlone Indoor Stadium on Sat last.
The day started with the club athletes winning eight silver medals and two bronze medals, but finished the second half of the day winning eight Gold in the afternoon.
The medallists were:
Danny Meaney – Gold in the Long Jump with a leap of 5.91m.
Kevin Shorthall equalled his life time best of 1.71m in the HJ to win silver.
Adrian McGinley ran 2min3secs to win Bronze in the 800m.
John Dwyer won Gold in the 56lbs for distance.
Evelyn Maher running in her first National Finals won bronze in the 800m in a time of 2 mins 34. 65secs.
Geneieve Rowland won Gold in the High Jump and three silver medals in the Long Jump; Shot Putt; and 60m Sprint.
The men’s relay – 4x200m team of Johnnie Doran, Danny Meaney, Ricky O’Brien and Adrian McGinley won Silver in this event. This is the 7th year in succession that this team has won either Gold or Silver medals in this event.
But pride of place goes to the Ladies 4x200m team. This was the first time in the club’s history that we had a ladies team in the final.
