Munster Road 4 Mile Championship
Eight Mooreabbey Milers took on the task of the Munster 4 mile road championship on Easter Monday. Castlelyons Co. Cork was the host venue and what a haul of medals we bought home.
For the ladies leading the way home was
Marie O'Shea with an individual bronze and county team bronze. Aoife Courtney ran the novice and bought home a novice county team silver medal. Leading the way for the men was Willie O'Donoghue with an individual gold, a club gold and a county gold medal, then we had Tom Blackburn with an individual silver, a club gold and county gold and Damien Holian with a club gold. Great running from Mandy Parslow, Mary Pyke and Patricia Ryan also on the day. A medal haul like this just shows what a little club can achieve across all disciplines. Well done everyone.
Knockmeldowns Half Marathon
The second race of the new MMRA half marathon league took place on the snow capped Knockmeldowns last Saturday. Four men were undaunted by the conditions and powered on up the tough and formidable course and in less then 2 hours later leading the way home for the Mooreabbey men was Robert Cunnigham, followed by Kevin Lenihan, Liam O'Donnell and Paddy O'Shea.
Juvenile Fun Run/Egg Trail
On Easter Saturday the club hosted a fun run/egg trail for their juvenile members/siblings and members family. The fun started at 5pm at rock an tarbh car park with 2 groups, the kiddies went on a 1km loop and the juniors on a 3km loop. On our 'eggciting' adventure we found the Easter bunny about to eat all our eggs when we got to the finish but with the magic answer we were able to save our eggs and enjoy our yummy chocolate. Many thanks to the organising committee and the volunteers that helped on the day.
Budding Mountain Baby
They say good things comes in 3s and no doubt we at the Mooreabbey Milers club can agree. Following on from the recent arrivals of Daniel and Hannah the club would like to congratulate Mary Louise Ryan, her husband John big sisters Kitty and Tessa on the birth of Inez. We can now reveal that our queen of the mountains took to a race of over 11km on Galty Mor, another in the Comreagh mountains and competed in cross-country throughout her first few months of pregnancy. What an inspiration.
