Our Ballingarry correspondent Jimmy Maher had plenty to say about the snow in this local notes this week!
What a week it was!!! – the whole country was brought to a standstill by the snow and ice - the Beast from the East met up with Storm Emma and between them they created havoc.
That was the bad news. But the good news was that it brought out the best in people who helped their neighbours in time of need and made sure that the elderly were safe and secure in their own homes.
Great credit must go to Councillor Imelda Goldsboro in helping to organise the major recovery effort in the parish over the past few days since this serious weather event started. She was instrumental in getting the necessary help in place to clear all roads of the huge drifts. She also got the powers that be to get the local unit of Civil Defence back in action for the first time in months to visit vulnerable people who couldn’t stir out and to bring them much-needed supplies (e.g. food / firing / vital medical prescriptions, etc.). Well done to all the members of this unit who turned out at a moment’s notice to help those who required assistance; to the members of the Co. Council who worked tirelessly day and night to keep us all safe and to grit the roads; also to the many contractors who brought out their heavy machinery to remove the banks of snow from main roads and back roads.
A job well done by all!! – take a bow everyone. Top of Form.
