Peake Villa B…..4
Glengoole Utd….2

An impressive performance from Villa seconds after a long lay off due to the severe weather conditions secured them a place in the draw for the second round of the Tipperary Cup. David Shannon had Villa in front after ten minutes
with a fine strike from outside the box but visitors Glengoole were level five minutes later when the centre forward scored after some poor defending. Villa had more possession and again went in front on twenty five minutes when Shannon hit another great shot from twenty five yards to the back of the net. Glengoole hit back and beat the Villa off-side trap minutes later to score and leave the team’s level at the break.

Villa started the second half in determined fashion and created several chances before going ahead for the third time. Man of the match David Shannon put in a great cross from the right wing and Joby Connors planted a superb header in the corner of the net after fifteen minutes to restore Villa’s lead. Villa defended much better in the second half which allowed the team to press forward and constant pressure forced a Glengoole defender to put through his own goal for Villa’s fourth with ten minutes left. This was a good win for Villa over a team two divisions above them and more performances like this one could see the team challenge for league honours.

Villa’s Tipperary Cup game against St.Michaels was called off last Sunday as a mark of respect to the St. Michaels club on the death of their Club President. Peake Villa FC sends its sympathy to the club and family.

Both the U/15 and U/13 games last Saturday were called off due to the pitches being unplayable.
