Rockwell College kick off this year’s Avonmore Munster Schools Senior Cup competition when they take on Limerick’s St Munchin’s College at Clanwilliam RFC on Tuesday January 26th at 3pm. The hallowed rugby turf in Tipperary town proved a lucky one fo
r the Cashel School in last year’s competition as they beat the Limerick City School there on route to the final where they were beaten by Christian Brothers College from Cork City. While some of last year’s heroic squad have inevitably moved onto pastures new with last year’s captain Cashel’s Patrick Butler in particular having gone on to play for Ireland at Under 20 level as well as forcing his way into the Shannon first team, nine of last year’s panel are still involved this year

Speaking this week Rockwell head coach Thurles man Mark Butler claimed that he is looking forward to the game and that the lads had been training hard all year. Mark is assisted this year by former St Mary’s College No.8 Frank Fitzgerald, Kevin Leamy who is a brother of Munster and Ireland backrow forward Denis and Midleton’s Tom Mulcahy.

Rockwell squad: C O’Donnell (Charlivelle), S Manton (Fethard), T Doyle (Golden), M O’Sullivan (Fethard), M Murphy (Fethard), D Magee (Bansha), E Phelan (Ballybacon), J Bayonne (Portugal), R Moran (Dundrum), M Cummins (Rahealty), B Duggan (Cahir), N Purcell (Aherlow), S McCarthy (Aherlow), E ODwyer (Roscrea), M Coffey (Greystones), B Crosse (Cashel), S Maguire (holycross), R Murtagh (Thurles), J Meagher (Killenaule), S Buckley (captain, Buttervant), A O’Sullivan (Dunmanway), L Cahill (Cloyne), T Rafferty (Tipp town), D White (Carrick on Suir), B Hough (Kilrush), D Hannigan (Fethard), JJ Hanrahan (Castleisland), C Holland (Cahir), B McEvoy (Cahir), D McGillycuddy (Dingle), C O’Donoghue (Clonmel), H McNulty (Bahrain), A Wallace (Cashel), R Mullane (Ballychlerihan), E McKenna (Two Mile Borris), S horgan (Ballincollig), E Farrell (Cahir), M Hynes (Clonmel) and B O Rahelly (Tipp Town).
