WE held our end of season awards night on Friday last in Hayes Hotel. In what can only be described as an excellent first season of competitive cricket we finished in third place in the league out of 8 teams. We wish to congratulate all the players on their efforts and in particular captain Keith Marchbank who did such a fantastic job this season.

His experience in cricket has proved invaluable to us and this played a major part in our successful season. Also thanks must go to chairman Pat Cawley for his immense off field work in keeping the club going and also to Michelle who was in charge of our scorebook this season.

As regards the awards Fintan Moore picked up the best batsman award in a season which saw him score three centuries and a combined total of 767 runs in league and friendly fixtures. His best score being a 131 not out against Cork Harlequins. Best Bowler went to Asim Zeeshan who picked up 11 wickets for us and was top league wicket taker. His best figures were an amazing spell in Kerry where his figures were 4 wickets for 8 runs off of 7 overs to win a game for us which had looked dead and buried at one stage. Asim unfortunately couldn’t be available due to a return to his native Pakistan for a few months and captain Keith Marchbank accepted the award on his behalf.

Our younger players were also rewarded for their efforts with Ronan Kennedy picking up the young batsman of the year award. The 15 year old who represented his province this summer scored 108 runs and showed his best form in the Harlequins home game seeing us home with a mature display of batting. Young bowler of the year went to Sean Cawley. This young pace bowler has improved immensely and has tormented many an opening batsman this year. Sean took 13 wickets in total with his best figures being 4 wickets for 26 runs off of 7 overs against Cork County in the Mardyke in July last. Finally, the most improved player award went to young Aaron Cawley. Aaron is our youngest team member and despite that has played a vital role in many of our victories and picked up 7 wickets. Like Ronan, Aaron has also represented Munster in the Inter Provincial series and is one to look out for in the future.

As we embark on some well earned hybernation now we would like to wish all our members well over the winter and look forward to seeing everyone again in 2013.
