Cashel F.C.

Cashel advance in O Reilly Cup in atrocious weather conditions - With the first team not in action, the seconds were in action in the Peter O Reilly Cup, on a weekend where the weather was no friend to anyone participating in any kind of sporting endeavours. The trip was worth the effort however as they bounced back from last weeks defeat to advance to the quarter finals and remain in the hunt for their second piece of silverware this season

Peter O Reilly Cup

Tipperary Town B FC 2 – 3 Cashel Town B FC

This game went ahead in absolutely terrible weather conditions but be that as it may, Cashel were determined to secure a good result and started well. Though it was difficult they constantly tried to play good football and made some good early chances which they were unlucky not to convert. The breakthrough did come eventually however, and from a most reliable source as striker Mick Mackey added to his already healthy season total by finishing a neat passing move to the net midway through the half. It was as much as the visiting team deserved, and they doubled their advantage shortly before half time when player/manager Paul Ryan made it two goals to nil from a well worked corner kick. Given the conditions this was a very healthy lead to take into the break, especially as Cashel were going to be playing into a stiff breeze in the second half.

And that breeze did make a difference as the home side finally found their shooting boots and peppered the Cashel goal right from the off. Tipp finally got back into the game ten minutes into the second half when they halved the lead with a scrappy finish from a defensive mix up. Things went from bad to worse fifteen minutes later when Tipp drew level, capitalising on more unforced errors as Cashel seemed completely unable to get to grips with the weather. However, they finally shook themselves from their torpor and began to gain a toehold in the final quarter. And then, as the game seemed headed for extra time, Mackey struck again to put Cashel back in front, a lead they didn’t relinquish right to the end of the game. This was a hard fought result, but it showed the resolve of the seconds, and not many would bet against them going all the way in this competition this year.
