Secretary Lashes Historic Decisions Taken on Hurling

The Secretary of the Mid Tipperary GAA Board has this week lashed a decision taken a number of years ago at County Board level which allowed intermediate clubs to move to the senior grade without being promoted and to ‘self regulate’ thereafter.

In a most comprehensive and wide ranging report to the Annual Convention which takes place in Castleiney on Friday evening next, Jonathan Cullen covers all aspects of Gaelic Games in the Mid division, and offers opinions on many issues including the running of championships.

In relation to the senior hurling championships, he writes, “ It has to be said that the decision to increase the number of senior hurling teams to thirty two a number of years ago by merely applying to be up graded, and then expecting that teams would “self regulate” has proved to be the most ridiculous and ill-informed act of leadership since Santa Claus asked turkeys to vote for Christmas. And, it has done serious damage to the standard and quality of the entire senior hurling championship in County Tipperary. See this weeks Tipperary Star for full reports.
