County Tipperary Juvenile Athletics News

The County Juvenile Relays took place in Thurles Crokes Complex on Sunday 4th November. Our thanks to Thurles Crokes A.C. for hosting this event & to all who helped out on the day.

Thanks also to our Cross Country Secretary, Mary Doyle for all her hard work in organising all our Cross Country Championships this year. There were wins for Carrick-On-Suir A.C. in the Girls U/10 & U/12 Relays & Moyne A.C. in the Girls U/14 race. In the Boys competition, Thurles Crokes A.C. won both the Boys U/12 & U/14 Relays with Templemore A.C. taking the title in the Boys U/10 race. In the U/16 Mixed Relay, there was only two clubs in contention with 2 teams each & it was Nenagh Olympic A.C. who won gold & silver with Moyne A.C taking bronze & 4th place. Results are below:-

The County Juvenile Uneven Age Cross Country Championships took place in the Turnpike, Two Mile Borris on Sunday 28th October. Our thanks to Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. who hosted these Championships, to our Cross Country Secretary Mary Doyle for all her hard work in organising these Championships & to all who helped out on the day. Clonmel A.C. emerged as the strongest Club for the Uneven Age Championships finishing the day on 40 points with Nenagh Olympic A.C. & Moyne A.C. in close pursuit on 38 points each. Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. finished on 18 points, Dundrum A.C. on 14 points, Templemore A.C. on 12 points, Thurles Crokes A.C. on 11 points, Newport A.C. on 10 points & Carrick-On-Suir A.C. on 4 points. In the individual competitions with 12 titles up for decision, it was Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. who won 3 titles, Nenagh Olympic A.C., Clonmel A.C. & Templemore A.C. who won 2 each with Newport A.C., Moyne A.C. & Dundrum A.C. winning 1 each. In the Team competition with 11 titles up for grabs, Clonmel A.C. won 4, Moyne A.C. 3, Nenagh Olympic A.C. won 2 with Dundrum A.C. & Thurles Crokes A.C. winning 1 each.

County Indoor Championships 2013
Please note that due to date clashes with other fixtures, our County Indoor Championships will now take place on the following 2 dates:-
U/13 to Junior - Saturday 12th January
U/9 to U/12 - Saturday 19th January

A special County Board meeting will be held on Wednesday 14th November at 8pm in the Horse & Jockey to discuss the programme for the forthcoming 2013 County Indoor T & F Championships.

Sun 11th – Munster Juvenile Uneven Age & Intermediate Cross Country Championships in Carriganore, WIT, Waterford with first race at 12 noon. Munster singlets for athletes on Munster teams for the upcoming National Cross Country Championships on Sunday 25th November MUST be ordered from Mary Meagher (Munster Council) on or before Monday 5th November. Singlets may be purchased for €20.00 each. 

Wed 14th – South Tipperary & Kilkenny Post Primary Schools Cross Country Competition in Marlfield GAA Complex, Clonmel at 11.15am. This competition is open to all schools who want to participate & is run over a very flat course.

First Race – 1st Year Girls, distance 1200m

Second Race – 1st Year Boys, distance 1200m

Third Race – 2nd Year Girls, distance 1200m

Fourth Race – 2nd Year Boys, distance 1600m

Fifth Race – 3rd Year Girls, distance 1200m

Sixth Race - 3rd Year Boys, distance 1600m

Seventh Race - 4th/5th/6th Year Girls, distance 1600m

Eight Race – 4th/5th/6th Year Boys, distance 2000m

Prizes

1st 3 Individuals per race, 1st 3 Teams per race. For the all the races you can have up to 6 on a team with 4 to score in each race. In the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year races where Schools enter 2 teams in a race we will have a set of medals for the winning team in the B Section. Sun 16th – County Senior & Junior Cross Country Championships at 11am at Goold’s Cross.

Thurs 10th – County Tipperary Athletics Board AGM in Horse & Jockey Hotel at 7pm.

Sun 13th – Munster Juvenile Relays, Junior & Senior Cross Country Championships in Limerick Racecourse.

Munster Star Awards Banquet 2012
This Banquet will be held on Saturday 26th January 2013 in the Rathkeale House Hotel, Rathkeale, Co. Limerick. Tickets cost €35 each & can be purchased from Mossie Woulfe & Anne Cullinane. For accommodation, contact Rathkeale House Hotel on (069) 63333 (quoting reference “Munster Awards”). Athletes & Clubs receiving awards will be contacted in early December.

Munster Convention 2013
The Munster Convention will be held on Friday 1st February 2013 at 7.30pm in Ennis, Co. Clare. Munster Combined Events Squad
A number of Tipperary athletes attended a very successful Day 2 of the Munster Multi-Events Development Squad in Nenagh Indoor Stadium on Saturday 3rd November (Report will be available at www.tipperaryathletics.com later in the week). Day 3 takes place on Saturday 24th November, a week earlier than previously scheduled because of the AVIVA Schools Combined Events International on Saturday 1st December in Glasglow. Daniel Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. competing for his school, Thurles CBS is Tipperary’s only representative on the Irish team & we wish him the very best of luck in the Junior Boys competition.

Munster Performance Squad 2012/2013

Details of this year’s Munster Performance Squad can be found on the Home page at www.tipperaryathletics.com. The online system link to register will be live by Wednesday 7th November for all selected athletes. Athletes selected on the squad will have all received their letters by Tuesday 6th November.

Upcoming Coaching Workshops

A Race Walking Masterclass will take place at Cork IT Track on Saturday 17th November. This promises to be a unique event as in attendance will be Olympic athlete Robert Heffernan. Don’t miss out on the chance to learn more about Race Walking from Robert Heffernan, Liam O Reilly and renowned Spanish coach Jacinto Garson, our special international guest coach. This master class is open to all athletes and coaches aged 10+. Athletes from clubs/schools all over Ireland are welcome to attend.

10am: Registration at CIT Track in the main athletics stand and the cost is €5 per person.

10.30 -11.30am: Theory session on how to coach kids and how they built a successful Racewalking school in Guadix Spain.

11.30am-12.30pm: Practical session on the track with Jacinto Garzon (Spanish Coach), Robert Heffernan (Irish Olympic Athlete) and Liam O Reilly (Irish Olympic team coach).

12.30-1pm: Q&A session with Robert Heffernan for athletes while coaches talk with Jacinto Garzon and Liam O Reilly.

A Cross-Country Squad Day will also take place at Cork IT Track on Saturday 17th November. This promises to be a unique event as in attendance 3.55 miler and former NCAA star David McCarthy. The cost for attending is EUR5 person. Details below for the event:

Munster XC Squad Day
Following on from a very successful 1st Munster XC Squad day at Banna Beach in September, a 2nd Munster Squad Cross-Country session will take place on Saturday 17th November at Cork IT Track. This is open to all endurance athletes in Munster that have achieved the following criteria:

1) 2012 ages u14 (born 1999) - u20 (born 1993)

2) Have finished top 20 in a Munster ‘A’ Cross-Country Championship in 2011 or 2012 in school or club championships

3) Have finished top 5 in a Munster ‘A’ Outdoor T&F Championship distance event (800m/1500m/3000m/5000m/Steeplechase)

All athletes are encouraged to attend and also their personal coaches. Athletes should meet at Cork IT Track stand at 10.00am sharp for registration and bring €5 with them. It will be a great privilege to have one of Irelands greatest distance runners in attendance on the day in 3.55 miler David McCarthy from Waterford.
