Moycarkey Down Moyle Rovers in Intermediate Football Semi-Final

Two Moycarkey-Borris goals in the first four minutes were decisive as the Mid champions shocked a fancied Moyle Rovers in the county intermediate football semi-final at Boherlahan on Saturday .
The strikes by Paudie Doran in the first minute, after a surging run by David Morris, and a long-range effort from Pa Carey three minutes later, which might have been stopped, gave Moycarkey-Borris a huge boost and left Moyle Rovers chasing the game thereafter.
And chase it they did as they recovered from those early lapses, but they never overtook their opponents, though twice coming within a point. Moycarkey’s ability to notch goals was again to be crucial in the second half when Ciaran Clohessy finished a great move with aplomb to give the then undersiege Mid men respite.
This was a cracking game of high quality and while Moyle Rovers were favourites, Moycarkey-Borris showed that they could play an excellent brand of football, and they will fancy their chances in the final against their Mid final opponents Upperchurch-Drombane. They were more direct in their approach than their opponents who showed a tendency to overdo their passing and a distinct reluctance to shoot when near goal.
Moycarkey could not have hoped for a better start with those goals by Paudie Doran and Pa Carey, separated by a Kevin Morrissey point for Rovers in the 3rd minute. Rovers began to settle and were three points adrift in the 24th minute(2-1 to 0-3) when Moycarkey ought to have got a third goal but Kieran Morris put wide with only the goalie to beat.
