Mines Strike Gold In Second Half

Munster Intermediate

Munster IntermediateHurling Final

Silvermines 0-14 Ballyduff (Kerry) 0-8

The Christmas celebrations have begun early in Silvermines, kick-started by the club’s magnificent victory over Kerry champions, Ballyduff, in the Munster Intermediate Hurling Club championship final at Semple Stadium on Saturday.

It was a first provincial hurling title for the parish, and one that looked very doubtful at the half-way stage, but a super show in the second half swept The Mines to a memorable win.

In reality, Ballyduff, who won their third successive Kerry senior title this year, and who were beaten finalists last year, should have been out of sight at half-time. Instead they led by a mere three points, 0-6 to 0-3, but ten first half wides, at least four from frees, cost them dearly, and left them fatally exposed to the Silvermines onslaught in the second half.
