Mines Strike Gold In Second Half

Munster Intermediate

Munster IntermediateHurling Final

Silvermines 0-14 Ballyduff (Kerry) 0-8

The Christmas celebrations have begun early in Silvermines, kick-started by the club’s magnificent victory over Kerry champions, Ballyduff, in the Munster Intermediate Hurling Club championship final at Semple Stadium on Saturday.

It was a first provincial hurling title for the parish, and one that looked very doubtful at the half-way stage, but a super show in the second half swept The Mines to a memorable win.

In reality, Ballyduff, who won their third successive Kerry senior title this year, and who were beaten finalists last year, should have been out of sight at half-time. Instead they led by a mere three points, 0-6 to 0-3, but ten first half wides, at least four from frees, cost them dearly, and left them fatally exposed to the Silvermines onslaught in the second half. See this weeks Tipperary Star for full report.
