Maher Thrilled With Sides Performance
It took Tipperary 185 training sessions to plot the course to All-Ireland victory in the minor hurling grade.
The incredible effort of the players and management was revealed by Manager William Maher after the Irish Press Cup had been captured for the 19th time by the Premier County. And, the impressive aspect of the win from a Tipp viewpoint was that it was totally expected on the part of all and sundry, such was their level of preparation which left no stone unturned.
Yes, there was great satisfaction in the Tipp inner sanctum when they returned from the pitch to celebrate their achievement. But, when Manager William Maher came to pass comment on the win, there was a cool, calculated calm to his approach – an air of almost passive acceptance and an acknowledgement that the players did what was expected of them, having failed to do it in the drawn game.
“We are just delighted we got the performance today. We were thrilled to get the second chance and we did it today. I think we were more focused on the game of hurling this time. When you come in to an All-Ireland Final it is very difficult to control things outside it. We controlled everything today and the individual performances gave us the platform we needed and ultimately led to us clicking. We worked on our game, concentrated on ourselves and worked really hard on that. There is no great secret, we just concentrated on ourselves,” he told the media.
