JJ McGrath Memorial Features At Thurles
Good crowd attended Thurles last Saturday night where featured was the second round of the JJ McGrath Memorial E5000 Stake which provided some exciting racing. The fastest time of the night was recorded in the third heat by Nodstown Flyer [College Causeway _ May Said So] owned bbybthe Let The Hare Sit syndicate. Making it four career wins Nodstown was quickly into his stride from trap three and was never headed going away to score by three and a half lengths from Think It Over in a good 29.24 with Active Linnet another length and a half back in third place.
Race one: The opener was won by Boherna Premier [Premier Fantasy – Borna Fastener] owned by Roger Dwan who made a winning debut.Here Sonaquest made the early running and led to the home stretch where the winner came through and went on to score by two lengths from Sonaquest in a time of 29.54 with Tubrid Beauty in third place.
Race two: The second race on the card was won by Everlast Yank who clocked 33.67 for the 600yds. Running from trap six theis son of Droopys Scholari – Lemon Yank owned by Fergus Turner got the better of an all the way tussle with Rockabbeyrose by two lengths with Oakfield Turbo third.
Race three: The second semi final was won in the faster time of 33.59 by Jovial Maestro [Ballymac Maeve – Nikitas Song] owned by James Murphy. Running from trap two the winner was involved in a thrilling tussle with Balleen Sonic but proved the stronger on the run for home and got up to score by a neck from Balleen with Droopys Kathryn third.
Race four: Flomur Romulus [Westmead Hawk – Flomur Pebbles] took the third heat of this stake when clocking 33.27 in the fourth race. Running from trap one this fellow made it eleven career wins when making it all to score by three quarters from a strong finishing Bantiss Sonia with Gereenisle Giant third.
Race five: This race heat one of the JJ Mcgrath Memorial Stake was won by Slaneyside Whirl [Hondo Black – Go To Mammy] owned by Sean O Neill and Colm Larkin and trained by Derek Kehoe who had a treble on the night. Winning for the third time Whirl was led to the back straight by Timber Sheds who was stillin front turning for home where the winner came with a strong late run and got up to win by a half length from the early leader with Donals Ace third.
Race six: The second heat was won by Tedo Shadow [Westmead Hawk – Tedo Queenie] owned by David Swift who was winning for the sixth time. Here Emers Duke made the early running and led to the back straight where the winner took it up and went n to hold off late challenge of Gortkelly Bebe by three quarters in a time of 29.61 with early leader Emers Duke in third place.
Race seven: Slaneyside Diego [Head Bound – Smooth Sky] owned by Sean O Neill and Caran Hehir was the second winner trained by Derek Kehoe on the night. Making it eighteen wins Slaneyside running from trap two was led to the back straight by Kevinsfort Haze. Here the winner took it up and went on to score by a length from Kevinsfort in a time of 29.43 with Star Crash third.
Race nine: Rackethall Ally [Ballymac Ruso – Rackethall Holly] owned by Ann Scully made it two wins when taking the final heat of the JJ McGrath Memorial in a time of 29.43. Here Bunnow Glory led to the back straight where the winner took it up and went on to score by a length from Bunnow with Express Nation third.
Race ten: Trainer Derek Kehoe completed a treble in the last race on the card with Lady Long Heir [Hondo Black – Me Margaret] who was winning for the seventh time when clocking 31.69 for the 570yds. Running from trap two the winner made it all to score by five lengths from Beautys Balotelli with Gerros Redsox third.
Star performer on Friday night was the run of Sharons Love [Minnied Pavlova – Sharons Baby] in the third heat of the Aherlow House Stake for A6 greyhounds. Owned by Jamed McCormack and trained by David Flanagan the winner was led out by Dance Flyer but led to the bend and from here on was never passed. Opening a good lead on the back straight the winner went right away to score by eight lengths from Florida Beauty in a time of 29.26 with Dance Flyer third.
Race one: The opener was won by Mohane Vic [Droopys Maldini – Santorini Jewel] owned by Patrick Davern. Running from trap six the winner was led in the early stages by Larch Stakes who led to the back straight. From here on the winner was never passed and crossed the line a half length clear in a time of 30.01 with Jolly Myth in third place.
Race two: heat two of this stake was won by Ashbourne Tail [Ballymac Maeve – Fairy Tail] owned by Kathy Latheiff who was making a winning debut. Running from trap two the winner was led to the back straight but took it up here and went away to win by seven lengths in 29.56 with After Liz in third place.
Race four: Manolita [Westmead Hawk – Galtee Bonny] owned by Noel Flanagan scored for the firat time when taking the fourth heat.The winner was always in front and scored by three and a half lengths from Present Danger in a time of 29.61 with Move On Holly third.
Race five: The fifth race on the card was won by Memories Leah [Swords Prince - Lukies Blue] owned by Ned Fogarty. Here Coolera Prince led the back straight where Spa Nelson took it up and went on to lead to the top bends where the winner took it up and won by five lengths clear of Glenbrack Cookey in 29.46 with Scholars Alibi in third place.
Race six: Rathmanna Caption [Royal Impact – Rathmanna Hazel] owned by Seamus Ryan justified favouritism when taking the sixth race on the card. The winner had a half length t spare over Shoemakers Spink in a time of 29.45 with Lemon Ella third.
Race seven: Boherash Ring made the early running but the winner Rockview Gem [Crash – Three Star Gem] owned by Betty Ryan proved the stronger and went away to score by a half length from Boherash in a time of 30.40 with Aeneas third.
Race eight: The final race on the card was won by Caits Torment [Minnies Pavlova – Torbal Gem] owned by John O Brien. Making it three career wins the winner made it all and had two lengths to spare over Cuteen Pete in a time of 19.74 with Kilkenny Banjo third.
