Gearoid in action in Croke Park

Photo shows Gearoid O’Connor from Moyne Templetuohy GAA club representing Galway during the ‘Into/Respect Exhibition Go Games’ at the GAA Hurling All Ireland Senior Championship Final between Galway and Kilkenny in Croke Park on Sept 30th last.

Son of Pat and Geraldine O’Connor, Barna, Templetuohy, Gearoid is a 6th class pupil in the Holy Family National School Templetuohy.

It was a fitting tribute to Gearoid that he was chosen to play in Croke Park on such an auspicious occasion, as he has a huge interest in all GAA activities, and indeed in many sports. He plays U/12 and U/14 in his local club and also plays soccer with Templemore Schoolboys. At school he has contributed to Cumann na mBunscoil Games, Basket Ball and Athletics.

In fact the same week as he played in Croke Park, Gearoid won a silver medal in the Co Tipperary Cross Country Athletics for Primary Schools held in Thurles. It was also noted by the School Principal Ms McDonnell how when he finished the race, he waited and cheered on all his team mates encouraging them to the finishing line.

Wearing the jersey of the Tribesmen on the day was a huge honour for Gearóid, although he readily quips that he looks forward to wearing the Tipperary Jersey when he will re-visit the Croke Park playing field in another 5/6 years !!
