Clonoulty-Rossmore Edge Out Skeheenarinky

Co Junior (A) Hurling Quarter final

Clonoulty/Rossmore 0-15 Skeheenarinky 0-13

Three acrobatic saves by Clonoulty/Rossmore goalie Michael ‘Bonny’ Kennedy helped the West Divisional champions qualify for the semi-finals of the County Junior (A) Hurling Championship securing a two-point victory against battling South Divisional representatives Skeheenarinky in the sunshine at New Inn on Saturday afternoon.

In what was a closely fought contest Skeheenarinky straight from the throw-in saw Tommy Sweeney registering the opening score. Less than sixty seconds later Clonoulty levelled with Kevin Maher on target. Clonoulty took the lead for the first time in the 6th minute through Adrian White. Skeheenarinky levelled for second time through a Conor Sweeney only for Patrick Ryan to restore Clonoulty’s single point lead free in the 10th minute.

Clonoulty goalie Michael ‘Bonny’ Kennedy produced a brilliant reflex save to deny Tommy Sweeney, but Skeheenarinky did restore parity for a third time from a Tommy Sweeney, but Clonoulty responded with Paul Hayes, Thomas Lyng and a free from Patrick Ryan to go 0-6 to 0-3 clear. Skeheenarinky with a brace of frees from Conor Sweeney brought it back to a single score, only Seamus Carew and Kevin Maher replying for Clonoulty.

It was at the other end of the park that Clonoulty goalie Michael ‘Bonny’ Kennedy produced two brilliant acrobatic saves from Conor Sweeney with the goal at his mercy. See this weeks Tipperary for full report.
