Ballina Require Extra-Time To Beat Clonakenny

County Intermediate Hurling Quarter-Final

Ballina 4-15 Clonakenny 0-19 AET

Fourteen man, Ballina needed two periods of extra time to find the rhythm needed to produce a dramatic win over Mid champions, Clonakenny in a highly exciting County Intermediate hurling quarter final at Saint Flannans Park, Moneygall last Saturday afternoon.

In the second of a double bill, this clash, just like the first game, needed extra time to separate the sides. The scorline at the end of normal time read Ballina 1-12 Clonakenny 0-15 after Stephen O’Brien equalised for Ballina – a remarkable result for the north men having played with a man short for three quarters of the game when Kevin Cosgrove was sent off.

It was fifteen a side in extra time and coming close to the interval break, the North side found a chink in the Clonakenny defence when David hickey and Stephen O’Brien grabbed two quick goals to steer them into a 3-13 to 0-17 at the change over. See this weeks Tipperary Star for full story.
