Tidy towns - annual Garden competition

Cashel Tidy Towns committee held their Annual Garden Competition Prizegiving in Spafield Resource Centre recently.

At the reception Chairman Paddy Downey congratulated all those who took part and he paid special tribute to Wally Ryan of John St Cashel who was the Overall Winner for 2013 and who took home a lovely piece of crystal.

The Tidy Towns Garden Competition is a significant part of the TT activities each year and results in fierce but friendly contests in the various categories each year. Paddy thanked Sr. Mary and the staff at SRC for the lovely spread which ensured everyone enjoyed a grand evening.

He also thanked all those who took part in Tidy Towns activity in Cashel and during the year and said that he looked forward with confidence to resuming the work in 2014. As regards the National Tidy Towns Competition in 2013, he was somewhat disappointed in that while we received very high praise indeed for the floral displays and other aspects, this was not reflected in the points awarded. He thanked the many traders and commercial interests who supported us both financially and through decoration of their premises – not forgetting Cashel Town Council whose management, staff and gardeners played a considerable role in improving many aspects of the town’s appearance. He appealed for new volunteers to come forward and said that he expected to organise workgroups during the late Spring/Summer and early Autumn evenings to facilitate those who cannot take part during business hours. Finally he wished everyone a Very Happy Christmas and Peaceful New Year.
