Hennessy Cup Victory
The Community School U-15 hurlers brought home the Hennessy Cup recently after a hard-won victory over Carrick-on-Suir C.B.S. This county Tipperary schools final was played in Kilsheelan, on an excellent pitch that had coped well with the heavy rainfall of previous days.
After a tough opening quarter in which Carrick had the better of the argument, Cashel got going in the second quarter and went on to lead by 1–7 to 0–8 at half-time, the goal coming from Andy Byrnes. With ten minutes to go, a goal from Ross Bonnar brought Cashel right back into the game. Andy Byrnes levelled for Cashel with a well struck free. Then, with time almost up, Sean O’Connell stroked home a vital goal to put the Community School into the lead which they held to the end, winning by 3–10 to 1-12.
Killian Hayde in goal for Cashel brought off several excellent saves, Rodge Concalves, Joe Griffey and Conor Horan were a solid full-back line, Ciarán Quinn, Kevin Tobin and Conor Walsh formed a hard-working half-back line,
James Kirby and Eoghan Connolly were industrious throughout at centre-field, while up front Murragh McDermott, Ronan Quinn, Ross Bonnar and Mark Downey kept the Carrick goal under threat. Wing-forward Colin Ryan and full-forward Andy Byrnes fulfilled their roving roles in good style. Substitutes Seán O’Connell, Daniel Lonergan and Jack O’Rourke made a strong contribution to the victory.
