Rotary takes Youth Leaders to Strasbourg

Thurles Rotary Club President Cllr Evelyn Nevin has this week lauded the great achievement of CBS student Rory Purcell who won the regional final of the Youth Leadership Awards.

The event, which was held in Carlow last week, is a competition which is run through all Rotary Clubs in Ireland. Each school enters a number of students with the local Rotary Club interviewing the students and then picking one to represent their own scholl.

This then leads to the club final and from this section, one students goes forward to represent their school, town and Rotary Clubs in the regional finals.

Cllr Nevin told The Tipperary Star : “ This year there was a very high calibre of students and it was a great experience for me to have the honour to sit on the interview panel in the Presentation Secondary School and listen to the achievements of these fabulous young leaders of the future.”

President Nevin added that Thurles Rotary Club was thrilled with Rory Purcell, son of Dara and Carol Purcell, Mondadreen, Thurles who represented his scholl, town and Thurles Rotary Club with great pride and honour and who proved to be a fabulous ambassador for the youth of The Cathedral Town.

“Rory will travel to Strasbourg next April for five days and on behalf of Thurles Rotary I would like to congratulate him and wish him the best for the future and an enjoyable trip.

“I would also like to thank club member Jean Forbes Cooke who co-ordinated the Youth Leadership Programme.

“Going forward, I hope Rory’s success will prompt many more of our young people to participate in youth leadership programmes,” Cllr Nevin said.
