Green Flag Award
Congratulations is extended to Ms. Smith and her hard-working Green Schools’ Committee on attaining for our school a Green Flag award. An incredible amount of work and planning has been undertaken by Ms. Smith in the last couple of years that culminated with the good news of the decision to award the prestigious Green Flag. Staff, both teaching and non-teaching, plus students have become environmentally aware and rowed in together to successfully make the campus of Coláiste Mhuire Co-ed Thurles a cleaner and greener place. The slogans on the corridors and assembly area such as “Be keen, go green” and “Go green, is féidir linn” reinforced the objective on a daily basis to strive towards the goal of attaining a Green Flag which has come to fruition.
We wish all our students at both Leaving Cert and Junior Cert the very best of luck as they are presently sitting their mock exams. Many months of hard work and preparation are being put to the test at this trying time as our students face into the last few months of their exam years. Go néirí go geal leo.
Under the guidance of 6th Year student James O’Meara Ryan, Friday sessions take place during lunchtime in the aonad on campus. Numbers are increasing as students from all years, including non-national Transition Year E.F. (Education first) students gather to learn and sing music from traditional and folk genres such as Ralph McTell, Ewan mcCall, Luke Kelly, and Christy Moore. Amongst those to grace one of our sessions lately was renowned uilleann piper Cillian Roche who played reels, jigs, Hornpipes etc. and imparted valuable tips to our ceoltóirí óga!
