Fine Gael Cllr. and Local Election candidate Eoghan Lawrence has welcomed the Governments announcement that in excess of €38 million has been allocated nationally to fund housing adaptation grants for older people and people with a disability in private houses for 2014.
South Tipperary Co. Co. will receive an initial allocation of €1,100,000 and it is hoped that this will be further increased with another allocation later in the year. Grants are available to people who are eligible to obtain funds from the South Tipperary Council to (a) carry out necessary adaptations to their homes to meet the special needs of persons with disabilities (b) improve conditions of the older persons existing dwellings and (c) assist with adaptations to address age related mobility problems. “These grants are vital as they help those most in need of assistance and allow them to continue living in their own homes and communities,” stated Cllr. Lawrence.
