Fr. Mathew Players

The Fr. Mathew Players will stage their production of “The Shaughraun” on February, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th at 8pm in New Inn Community Hall.

“The Shaughraun” is a melodrama written by  Irish actor/playwright Dion Boucicault and was first performed in New York in 1874.

The play is about Robert Ffolliott, who has returned to Ireland after escaping from transportation in Australia. At the play’s onset, we are informed that Ffolliott, is a Fenian fugitive, but it soon becomes clear that he is no such thing; rather, he is an innocent local gentleman who was tricked into pledging himself to a criminal disguised as a Fenian whose intent was to then betray him to the police. However all is not lost, with the aid of his best friend “Conn the Shaughraun” the roguish local poacher, musician and general life and soul of any wedding or wake, which provides much of the comic relief throughout.

This adaptation of the original by the Fr. Mathew Players, New Inn includes music, song and dance as befits the time, story and general interpretation of the play.

It promises to be a great night of theatre for all the family. As always we look forward to opening night and appreciate your support.
