Dunkerrin Community Centre would like to thank everyone for taking part in celebrating the 40th anniversary of its opening and refurbishment.

On Saturday December 7th last proceedings began with the celebration of Mass by Rev Joseph Kennedy, PP, in St Mary’s Church. This was followed by a meal and a concert in the hall that was packed to full capacity.

Presentations were then made to the original committee members. Some of these members, who are no longer with us, were represented by a family member. For those members this recognition was a very moving, inspiring, and sentimental moment. The following deceased members were represented as follows – Joe Douglas by his wife, Mary Douglas; Jimmy Fitzpatrick by his cousin, Joe Fitzpatrick; Paddy Byrne by his wife, Monica Byrne; Willie Carroll by his grandson, Liam Carroll; Teresa Doyle by her husband, Michael Doyle, Castleroan; Violet ‘Babs’ Maher by her son, Dudley Maher; Willie Comerford by his son, Peter Comerford; and Josie Maher by her son, Jimmy Maher.
