On Friday next 29th November 2013, Thurles Garda Station will hold its first Station Open Day and Road Safety Event.
The event is being organised by Garda Anastasia Murphy and Garda Tom Finnan who are both active members of Thurles Traffic Corps. The event forms part of the Tipperary Traffic Corps continuing efforts to reduce serious and fatal road traffic collisions on our roads. The Road Safety Authority Interactive Shuttle and Rollover Car Simulator will be present throughout the day. At approximately 12 noon, a Casualty Simulation Event (Mock Collision) will take place. It will demonstrate how the Emergency Services work together as a team at a serious road traffic collision.
Members of An Garda Síochána, the Ambulance Service and Fire Service will take part. Hi-Vis jackets and leaflets will be handed out on the day and members of An Garda Síochána will be present to provide advice regarding road safety. Members of the public will be guided around designated parts of the Garda Station on the day and will get a feel for how a Garda Station is run on a day to day basis. Refreshments will be provided.
The following Garda Units will also be in attendance on the day: the Regional Support Unit, Drugs Unit, Public Order Unit, Community Policing Unit, Garda Dog Unit, Traffic Corps and Detective Branch. The aim of the Open Day is to give the general public of Thurles Garda District the opportunity to meet the local Gardaí on an informal basis, and in turn for the members of An Garda Síochána to promote Road Safety and improve public relations in an educational way fostering good relationships going forward.
We look forward to seeing you on the day.
