Coast Guard Activities - On Sunday last, April 28 Killaloe Coast Guard Unit was tasked to assist Rescue 115, the Shannon Based Irish Coast Guard Helicopter and the Ambulance control Centre, by Valentia MRSC. The Female who had fallen and fractured her ankle near Ballycuggaran Wood was located and airlifted to Limerick Regional Hospital. On April 20 members of Killaloe Coast Guard Unit joined with volunteers from Doolin and Kilkee at a “Search Skills” course, which was held in Ennis. Also on April 20 the Unit was tasked to assist the Doolin and Kilkee Units for the final day of the search for a missing person at the Cliffs of Moher. Unfortunately the missing person, a 29-year-old Cork lady has not been located and the 14-day land, sea and air search was wound down. On April 26 the Killaloe Coast Guard was tasked by local Gardaí to a report of a male in the Killaloe area attempting self-harm. Killaloe Coast Guard carried out an extensive search of the area. The male was later found in the Limerick area.

Scouts - The Beaver Scouts travelled to Mountshannon last Sunday for a County Beaver Day. The Mountshannon Scout Group was the host for this lovely day out. The Beavers had fun with such activities as clay modelling, stilt walking, running through the maze, story telling, and other fun bases. At the end of the day, they were each given a ‘goody’ bag and headed home, happy. The Rover Scouts went to Killarney for a day’s hiking. They started out at Kate Kearney’s Cottage and went along the Black Valley and up to the summit of the Purple Mountain. The ideal weather suited the hikers who had a good day out.
Tennis - KBTC hosted the annual Clare Challenge Cup match with Ennis on Sunday, April 21. Thirty-two players took to the courts and overcame some very difficult conditions to provide the supporters with some exciting matches. Ennis fielded a strong team as always but came up against a determined KBTC team who came out worthy winners. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Edel Neary of KBTC and Bill Twomey, Ennis TC for organising such an enjoyable event.
Lough Derg FC - Lough Derg FC are playing the last few remaining games of the 2012/13 season. In the NT&DL results from last weekend saw both the U/18 and men’s Junior A team end their season. On Saturday, April 27 the U/18 youths lost their Cup Semi-final versus Nenagh AFC by 6-0 and on Sunday, April 28, in the NT&DL Tipperary Cup, Nenagh AFC ‘B’ and Lough Derg ’A’ were tied 0-0 after extra time. Nenagh won the resultant penalty shoot-out 3-2. An inspired display from an impressive Nenagh keeper kept the visiting Ballina-Killaloe Lakers at bay with a number of saves while poor finishing and a cross bar also contributed to the LDFC loss. In the NTSFL the Ballina-Killaloe club’s U/15’s won their Shield quarter final tie against Sallypark FC by a score of 7-2 on Friday, April 26. This U/15 LDFC team and their coaches can look forward to the semi-final with some confidence. Their next game, a Shield semi-final fixture, still has to have its details confirmed and given by the league. Lough Derg’s U/14 team will meet either Ballymackey or Ardcroney (match on May 3) in the NTSFL U/14 Cup final on Monday, May 6. Venue to be decided. Three club players, Jack Lynch (U/14’s), George Kealy (U/14’s) and Seamus Monaghan (U/16’s) enjoyed a four-day trip to Reading FC in the UK over Easter. One of the many highlights saw the North Tipperary U/14 Emerging Talent squad defeat their Reading U/14 Academy counterparts by a score of 3-0.
Our AGM will be held on Tuesday, May 14 at 8pm in the Lakeside Hotel. Motions and nominations should be sent to Carol Oakley, Club Secretary (087) 2902509 by Monday, May 6.
