Community Text Alert - A very successful meeting was held in Gortnahoe Community Centre recently. There was a good attendance and the following officers were elected Chairperson Joe Dufficcey, Secretary Maeve Maher, Joint Treasurers: Noel Quinlan, John Mullhall and Anne Healy, Assistant Secretary Mally Noonan, PRO Mary Cleary. Committee: Tom Ryan, Liam Teehan, Margaret Lanigan, Eileen Fitzgerald and Sadie Heffernan. Honorary members Fr. Irwin P.P. and Fr. O’Rourke. Also present at the meeting were Sergeant Michelle Tierney and James O’Neill of Muintir Na Tire. A launch night in conjunction with other Community Text Alert areas will take place in Killenaule in Mid May, date to be confirmed.

Bereavement - The death occurred of James McGarry, Boulick formerly of Inchrourke, Fennor on Friday, April 19th. Reposal was at Doyle’s Funeral Home, Urlingford on Monday 22nd. Removal took place on Wednesday for Requiem Mass to The Sacred Heart Church, Gortnahoe followed by burial in Fennor Cemetery. James is deeply missed by his wife Martina, sons Shane and James, daughter Geraldine, grandchildren, sister, brother, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.

Family Mass for May - Will be on this Sunday, May 5th in Glengoole at 10am and Gortnahoe at 11.15am. Theme is honouring Mary ‘Queen of May’.

Cake Sale - In Glengoole Hall in aid of ‘The Flying Nun’ on this Sunday, May 5th after The Family Mass. Free tea and coffee. Donations of cakes, buns, tarts, bread and scones most welcome. Hall open on Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 9.30am.

Parish Annual - The next meeting will be on Monday, May 27th at 8pm at Fr. O’Rourkes. New ideas and suggestions for the 2013 Annual would be appreciated. New members are welcome. Items are now welcome by email to parish annual@gortnahoe.com or handed in to Gortnahoe Post Office.

MFRC Course Information Meeting - If you are under 35 and in receipt of Social Protection come to an open Morning at the Millennium Family Resource Centre, Glengoole on Tuesday, May 14th from 9.30am to 12 noon.

Kilkenny Age Friendly County Programme - Is available to provide ‘Ageing with Confidence’. The 8 weeks workshop is a personal development programme designed to help people over 55 explore their ageing process. The programme is run by two trained facilitators and looks at all aspects of ageing including physical, emotional and intellectual. Charity Cycle - Charity Cycle in aid of the Gortnahoe Playground and National Breast Cancer Research will be held in Gortnahoe on Sunday the 12th of May. There are 3 routes: 15K for the Family departing Gortnahoe @ 12.30p.m., 48K for a Challenge departing Gortnahoe @11.30a.m. and 100K for all Cycling Enthusiasts departing Gortnahoe @ 9.30a.m. This is our second GG Challenge. We have planned new routes and we hope to see you there. It will be a Super Fun day for everyone. Come along & be part of the craic. You can register on the day.
