County U/16 Football Champions - The eagerly awaited Tipperary U/16 ‘C’ football final was played in Cloneen on the Bank Holiday between Mullinahone and Moycarkey. Mullinahone laid siege to the Moycarkey goal from the start. Early chances were missed against the stronger side. Mullinahone retained possession very well giving little away even under pressure. In the backs County minor and team captain Eiren Connolly ably assisted by Aisling Foley, Fiona Fennelly, Lena Butler, Eimear Horan and County U/14 player Aine Dunne broke up many Moycarkey attacks. In midfield Jane Walker and Nicole Shelly were on top. Up front County U/14 Aoibhe O’Shea ably assisted by Lorna Cody and Shauna O’Meara began to pick off the scores. After playing with the breeze Mullinahone led at half time 2-3 to 0-1. Shortly after the break Moycarkey goaled to bring themselves back into the game but Mullinahone moved up a gear to again take command. Subs, Orla Butler, Eimear Horan and Grainne Horan added fresh legs as Mullinahone began to pull away. When referee Andrew Meaney blew the final whistle the score was Mullinahone 4-13, Moycarkey 1-3. The County Chairman presented the winners cup to Eiren Connolly (Team Captain) and Aoibhe O’Shea who had scored 2-10 was made ‘Player of the Match’. Later the panel and management team of Linda McGrath, Noreen Horan, Alison Fennelly and Helena O’Meara enjoyed well deserved refreshments in the Mullinahone G.A.A. Complex.
