St John the Baptist BNS was a very place for the last week with a host of Comenius visitors.
Our school is currently involved in two Comenius actions, Comenius Assistantship, and Comenius Partnership. As part of our Comenius partnership with schools in the UK, Sweden, Hungary and Italy, delegates from these countries travelled to Cashel for St Patrick’s Day. T
he title of our project is “Europe’s Cultural Wealth in Legends, Stories and Myths”. This project has helped our boys to become more aware of other countries and cultures, as well as helping them to work collaboratively with pupils across Europe using new digital media. www.storiesshared.eu is the website where you can keep track of our progress.
The Comenius Programme focuses on all levels of school education and aims to improve and increase the mobility of pupils and educational staff across the EU, enhance and increase partnerships between schools in different EU Member States, encourage language learning and improve pedagogical approaches and school management.
Our Comenius visitors took part in the parade, visited our school and admired all the project work, songs and plays that were well rehearsed by the boys. They also took part in a tree-planting ceremony and watched the boys playing hurling and football matches.
They also competed in a long puck competition, where Hungary were the victors. The delegates were very impressed with our school and well done to all the staff and pupils for their hard work and preparations.
