An information evening on Suicide Awareness will be held on Monday 15th April 2013 @ 7pm in Hotel Minella, Clonmel. The evening, which is free and open to all members of the public, is being organised by Clonmel man Joe Leahy in association with the Irish Association of Suicidology, and supported by the South Tipperary G.A.A. Board.
This is the third such evening organised by Joe and follows previous Information Evenings held in April and November in 2012.
The aim of the evening is to help and support people who have been affected – either directly or indirectly, by suicide. “The theme of the evening is Taking Positive Action” explained Joe. “So often, our response to suicide is one of helplessness – we don’t know what we, as individuals can do. Each of the Speakers at the Information night has, in their own and very different way, taken positive action to help tackle the tragedy of suicide in our communities and to support those bereaved by suicide”.
Speakers on the evening include:
Cllr Billy Shoer, Mayor of Clonmel,
Dr John Connolly, Psychiatrist, Founder and Secretary of the Irish Association of Suicidology
Mr Paul Morris, District Coroner for South Tipperary
Mr Gerry Flynn, President of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors
Ms April Duff and Mr Jamie Moore, ‘Mind Matters’ Project, Waterford Comhairle na nÓg.
Information will also be available from various support organisations including the Samaritans, Console, One Life, AWARE, Suicide or Survive, the H.S.E. and St Vincent de Paul.
For further information or details, contact Joe Leahy on 086 2606988.
All are very welcome to attend
