Sportsman Passes -
The death took place recently at his residence of Michael Denny of Modeshill. Michael was in his late seventies and had been in poor health for some time. In his younger days Michael was a well known playing member of Mullinahone C.J. Kickhams playing both football and hurling for his parish. In later years he became a golfer and was elected Captain of Callan Golf Club. Michael’s remains reposed in Brett’s Funeral Home and they were accompanied to St. Michael’s Church by Guards of Honour representing the Golf Club and Mullinahone C.J.K. Michael’s coffin was draped with the Mullinahone flag as it entered the church and the white pall was placed on his coffin by his daughters Catherine and Marian. His Funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. McGrath P.P. assisted by Fr. Lambe P.P. Drangan. The readings were given by Francis (son), Carmel (niece) and Catherine (daughter). The Prayers of the Faithful were recited by four of Michael’s grandchildren while two younger grandchildren presented the Offertory Gifts. As Michael’s coffin left St. Michael’s Church, “Slievenamon” was rendered by two of his nieces Pauline and Maura. Michael had always been known for his loyalty to all things Tipperary and the singing of “Slievenamon” paid due tribute.
