Solemn Novena - The nine day annual Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help concludes in the Abbey on this Sunday, September 16th. Big numbers have over the past days attended either the morning or the afternoon sessions. At each session there was the celebration of Mass, informative sermons on various themes were eloquently delivered by invited priests from other dioceses, the music and sweet singing of the hymns added to the ceremony. Archbishop Dermot Clifford attended a session each of the nine days. If you have not as yet attended a session you still have this Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, you should make the effort and come along to Holycross Abbey and join the congregation in prayer or in thanksgiving to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Confessions will be heard before, during and after each session except on Sunday. Session times weekdays are 7am, 10.30am, 4.30pm, 7.30pm and 9.30pm. Extra sessions on Sunday at 12.30pm. and 2.30pm. Anointing of the Sick on Saturday, 15th September, special session at 2pm. The Blessing of Infants on Sunday at the 2.30pm session.
A successful nine day solemn novena culminates on this Sunday night. In the absence of our parish priest Fr. Breen who continues to recuperate after his recent operation, our curate, Fr. Celsus was responsible for all the work involved before and during the nine days, of course the parishioners helped out and especially Pat McGrath, the Sacristan, however the responsibility of the event rested mainly on the curates shoulders. No doubt he will utter a sigh of relief on Sunday night after the successful conclusion of the 2012 Novena. Our Lady was petitioned for the continued success of Fr. Breen’s recuperation, his full recovery to good health to enable him to return to our parish in the not too distant future.
