Colaiste Mhuire Johnstown - Places are still available for PLC FETAC Level 5 and 6 courses, the courses on offer for September are Business and Secretarial Studies, Business Administration, Engineering Technology with Agricultural Modules, Early Childhood Care and Education Level 5 and Level 6. Colaiste Mhuire will run their annual Irish camp from Monday, July 16th to Friday, July 20th from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. Cost E40. Knock Summer Festival - Knock Summer Festival is taking place on July 28th. It is a free event for all people between the ages of 17 and 30 years. Urlingford Johnstown Galmoy Community Games - Well done to all the following children from our community games area who participated in the Co. Kilkenny Community Games Athletics Finals last Sunday, June 24th. U/8 Daniel Stapleton, Louise Hickey & Niall Drennan (sprint), U/10 Calum Lonergan, Billy Drennan and Aisling Hickey (sprint), Ciara Queally (200m), Matt Delaney and Emily Kavanagh (hurdles), U/12 Gavin Moriarty (sprint), Connor Drennan & Johnny Doyle (long puck), Calvin Ryan and John McCormack (Ball Throw), U/12 Jack Hickey and Eimear Leahy (600m), U/14 Sarah Jane McCormack, Kieran Norton and Shona Power (sprint). All children gave great performances and it was an honour for our area to have them representing us in the county finals. The first medal of the day arrived when Calum Lonergan was first past the finish line to win gold in the U/8 80m sprint. This was followed with a great run by Billy Drennan to win silver in the U/10 100m sprint. We had even more success at the field events when Connor Drennan won gold and Johnny Doyle won bronze in the long puck and Calvin Ryan won gold in the ball throw. Emily Kavanagh was the first girl to win a medal when she gave a great performance to win the U/10 Hurdles. Sarah Jane McCormack then won gold and Shona Power won silver in the U/14 100m sprint. This was followed by yet another great run by Eimear Leahy who won gold in the U/12 600m. We had even more success in the Relay events, when the U/10 team (Matt Delaney, Billy Drennan, Aisling Hickey, Emily Kavanagh) won silver, the U/12 team (Johnny Doyle, Jack Hickey, John McCormack, Connor Drennan) won sliver and the U/13 team (Kieran Norton, Eimear Leahy, Sarah Jane McCormack, Calvin Ryan) won gold. Thanks to athletics mentor Mary Burke and to all committee members and parents who helped out on the day. Well done to all children who participated and a special congratulations to all children who came first in their events, who will now go on to represent Kilkenny in the National Finals which take place in Athlone at the end on August.
