Scout News - Beavers and cubs had a very busy few months since September. With all the usual games, art and craft in the Den in Rossmore, Beavers also went on a County hike in the Marl bog with other Beaver groups. The Beavers then finished the year with their Christmas party in the Den. Clubs have also been busy doing Knots, Tripods, Lashings and map reading in the Den. They got the chance to put their skills to the test before Christmas with an overnight trip to Rathcormac. The Cubs went bowling in Clonmel with a stop off at MacDonalds before Christmas as their end of year treat. Then to kick start the new year our group travelled to the UL concert hall to see
Aladdin on stage. An enjoyable day was had by all.
We are now back in the full swing of things and we have a busy scouting year ahead of us. The County Scouts have a Table Quiz coming up for both cubs and Beavers, we will also have overnights planned for later in the year. The cubs will also be finishing the year with a County Camp in June.
We would also like to thank Niamh Kearney of our club group who won a competition to design a badge for the Dundrum International Scout Centre. Entries from scout groups in the County were sent to the head office in Dublin for judging and Niamh emerged as the winner, she was presented with a 100 euro and a framed badge with the original drawing by County Chairman, Joe Butler before Christmas. Niamh will also have the honour of knowing that her badge will travel the world with all the groups who travel far and wide to use the centre. We would like to say well done to Niamh it is a great honour for you and the group.
At the County A.G.M in Cashel, on Tuesday night the 31st, John Ryan of Thurles stepped down as County Commissioner. All at 34th Tipperary would like to say thanks to John for all his help during the years and we are sure he would be free for Scouting advice should the need arise. Enjoy your retirement, John. Robert Costigan from Tipp town took John’s position and I’m sure Robert will work fairly and with enthusiasm with all groups in the area. Best of luck in your new position, Robert.
To ensure the future of Scouting in the Parish we need more leaders.
Scouting needs you! We are holding a Recruitment Night in Rossmore Hall on Wednesday, 8th of February at 8 o’clock sharp. Please come along - you will be most welcome.
