The Beavers from 6th Tipperary Roscrea Scout Group have enjoyed a very busy start to the 2014 –2015 Scout year.
In September we welcomed back our returning Beavers from last year along with all the new Beavers to join the Group this year. The first major activity of the year saw the Beavers taking part in the Chief Scout Award this year, some 17 in total, spend a weekend in Dundrum International Scout Centre in Dundrum. Over the weekend, of October 4th, the Beavers decided on the projects that they would be undertaking for their awards, but the emphasis was on fun and they also enjoyed the on-site assault course, but in particular the centres excellent Zip Line. In the evening they had a bar-b-que and campfire before returning home on the Sunday morning happy with their first overnight of the year having been completed.
On Saturday 11th October the Thursday Beavers had a day trip to Fota Wildlife park in Cork where they had a brilliant day seeing all the animals in the park. The following weekend on Saturday 18th October about 35 Beavers from both the Tuesday and Thursday sections enjoyed a backwoods day in Orange Hill just outside Roscrea.
All the Beavers practiced their skills in outdoors cooking, building shelters and track and trails. The two Beavers sections will now have a week off for Halloween and when they return there will be no slow down in the activities, as a trip to the Bog of Allen Nature Centre in Lullymore near Rathangan in Co Kildare is on the agenda for Saturday November 8th.
The Group still has 1 or 2 places open in our Beaver Sections for kids aged 6 to 8 years old. Our catchment area covers Roscrea, Shinrone, Moneygall and all areas in between.
