North Tipperary County Council has no policy on parking at cemeteries, Newport electoral area manager Marcus O’Connor told councillors.

“You can’t plan for parking at funerals or matches. It doesn’t make sense to provide a big parking area for the limited amount of times they are used,” he said.

Mr O’Connor was responding to a call from Cllr John Carroll and Cllr Jonathan Meaney for work to be carried out at Castletown graveyard and for the site opposite the facility to be cleaned up.

However, they were told by engineer Michael Hayes that the area in question was owned by the Minister for Lands and was private property. They would need permission to do any work on it, including tidying it up.
