Tipperary TD Noel Coonan has welcomed a new mainstream classroom for Killea National School, Templemore. Deputy Coonan said the new classroom is great news for the small rural community in Killea and he was delighted to help acquire funding for the classroom.

“I have been advancing Killea NS’s application for additional funding through my continuous lobbying of the Education Minister. I am very pleased the Minister has listened to my pleas and granted funding for this important classroom. It will come as a sigh of relief to Principal Brid Coffey O’Meara, staff, pupils and associated families that the school infrastructure will be altered to better accommodate the number of students attending the school,” said Deputy Coonan.

“Killea NS is a small rural school that is cherished by the community in Killea and further afield. The enrolment figures have grown in the school over past years and so it was necessary to extend the accommodation. I have visited the school and met with staff. There is a very happy learning atmosphere in the school and this good news will further positively enhance the learning environment.

“Although the school did not receive all it applied for, this news is a welcome and positive development and a step in the right direction. Hopefully, through working with the Principal, Board of Management, parents and the local community we can build on this,” concluded Deputy Coonan.
