Set dancing is thriving in the Parochial Hall in Urlingford every Monday night from 8.30 to 11. At this stage the local club was formed over a year ago by local dancing enthusiast Phil Fogarty. Approximately four to five sets attend weekly. New sets such as the Rinkinstown and Claddagh are explained weekly by Declan Doocey. Old favourite sets such as the Ballyvourney, Cashel ,Ballyduff and Connemara sets are danced weekly. Dancers come from Kilkenny city, Cashel, Roscrea, Thurles and surrounding parishes. Local musician Danny Webster provides lively and exciting music every night. Tea and refreshments are provided nightly. The club is open to all beginners to come along and hopefully experienced dancers who gave it up a few years ago might make a return. Set dancing is very popular in many parts of Tipperary and in certain pockets throughout Kilkenny. It was fostered by Scór in competitions up to approximately twenty years ago . In the new year the club will hold its first ever large Ceile in the Community Centre on Saturday, 25th of January from 9 to 12.
