Thurles Town Councillor John Kenehan (Labour) has called for a barrier to be erected on a green area at Moyne Road and wondered about having permanent steps installed to make the area leading onto Loughtagalla more safe.

Speaking at the monthly meeting of the council recently, Cllr Kenehan said that the area is quite steep and without steps it can be tricky to negotiate. It is used by many coming out of Loughtagalla through a shortcut and needs some attention.

Thurles Town Clerk Mr Michael Ryan said that the matter would be investigated by the outdoor staff with a view to seeing what could be done to make the area safe.

“It’s important that we do something about it before somebody is seriously injured,” Cllr Kenehan said.
