Nenagh Town Council was urged by Cllr Virginia O’Dowd to use mobile CCTV cameras, similar to those in the county, to tackle littering.
She was responding to town manager Marcus O’Connor after he told her the new CCTV system would be static, though some cameras will tilt. Cllr O’Dowd was supported by Cllr Tommy Morgan, who said the litter around the town was “unbelievable”. Cllr Hughie McGrah said littering was continuous in some areas, and Cllr Tom Mulqueen said one farmer was continually removing rubbish from his field on the Thurles road. “It is a problem, but people aren’t leaving envelopes with their names on them in dumped rubbish anymore,” said Mr O’Connor.
