Thurles Town Clerk Mr Michael Ryan informed members of the good news at a recent meeting of the council and said that the appointment must come from somebody already working in the public service.

The position of Tenant Liaison Officer was first created in the town on a pilot basis but such was the success of the position filled by the recently retired Mr Brian Dowling, that it has become crucial to the efficient operating of the system particularly in relation to housing and tenancy matters.

The news was welcomed by members of the council who looked forward to having the position filled as soon as possible. However, they acknowledged that the successful candidate would have a hard act to follow with much praise being heaped on Mr Dowling for the manner in which he went about his job.
