65 Hollyford wind turbines are ‘not on’ says Wood
Due to the scale and size of wind turbines erected or pending erection in the Hollyford/Piperhill area and while the Council contends that wind energy development complies with Government guidance and legislation, Councillor Tom Wood believes that with the upcoming amalgamation of both North and South County Councils an urgent review of Wind Policy in the Development Plan is necessary.
In response to a motion tabled at the December meeting of the Council, where he made particular reference to environmental assessment, he was advised that there are currently 65 turbines either existing or permitted but not yet constructed in the Hollyford general area while currently two applications relating to a further 21 turbines in total are in the Planning system or with an An Bord Pleanala. “With the South Tipperary Development Plan 2009 illustrating that the area in question has a mix of designations I contend that the recent concerns raised about Airgrid and pylons cannot be isolated from the wind turbine issue. Wind Energy development is all very fine until an area is saturated with turbines around practically every bend on the road,” concluded Cllr Wood.
