Tidy Towns Tuesday – The Tidy Towns committee are having a clean-up on every Tuesday from 7.30 to 8.30 for the next few weeks. We would encourage everyone to come out and do a small bit to help keep our village clean. If you have any questions please contact any member of the tidy town committee.
Run For Fun – The Day-Care committee are looking for volunteers interested in running in the Dublin Ladies Mini Marathon on the June Bank Holiday Weekend. Tea Dance – Remember the next Tea Dance in the Resource Centre will be on 4th May when the great ‘Sam O’ Doherty’ will give it his very best on the night from 9.30 to 12.30. High tea served at 11pm and extra spots on the night. The committee would be grateful if anyone could donate a spot prize and of course all the proceeds go to the Day-care. Sincere thanks.
Swallows – Have you seen the swallows yet? Last week before the heavy rain they were lilting the ground in Ayle, Ballyhane and surroundings areas. Thank God they were flying high.
Sincere Sympathy – To the Ryan (Phil) family on the death last week of Katie, mam, grandmother and great-grandmother. To her daughters Joan, Angela, Mary, Sr. Helen and Kathleen, son Danny (Canada), grandchildren some of whom travelled from Canada for the funeral, daughters-in-law Veronica and Margaret. Katie was Queen of the Square when she lived there, she moved to the village around 1990 from Ballykiveen after her husband Johnnie died R.I.P. Katie’s many friends will miss calling to the Woodlands to see her, where she spent the last two years of her life. After a very large funeral on both days Katie was laid to rest in the family burial ground in Cappawhite. May her dear soul Rest in Peace.
Cappawhite N.S. - Is delighted to announce that it has been awarded its fourth Green flag, based on the travel theme. The school has been working on this theme for the past two years, by encouraging pupils to walk or cycle to school. The school will receive the award at An Taisce presentation in Kilkenny at the end of May. The flag will be raised in the school grounds at the annual end of year Mass.
Scrap Metal Collection - An open day for scrap metal will be held at Grisewood’s Farm on Saturday, April 27th. Scrap metal and electrical items can be dropped between 10am and 4pm. Larger items can be collected. Please contact the school on (062) 75363 if you require collection.
U/14 ‘B’ Ladies Football - Cappawhite 3-01, Templemore 5-10. Cappawhite kicked off their U/14 football championship on Wednesday evening last but unfortunately conceded their first match. They never threw in the towel despite playing against a gale force wind in the second half. Panel are: Aine Dargan, Aoife O’Brien, Katelyn Fleming, Eva Moloney, Bhahnáid Cummins, Ornaith Hennessy, Michelle O’Dwyer, Eibhlis MacDonald, Jean Kelly, Aishling Buckley, Courtney Quinn, Clara Stapleton, Shauna Ryan, Lauren Hayes and Aoife Walshe.
Ladies Football Coaching - We need interested parents or volunteers to coach U/6 & U/8 ladies football. This will ensure the continuity and great tradition of ladies football in Cappawhite. No previous experience necessary. Names of people interested or enquiries to Séamus Lennon (086) 2771843.
U/12 ‘B’ Boys Football - Cappawhite 1-09, Lattin Cullen 2-2. Cappawhite hosted this fourth round football competition to Lattin on Tuesday evening last. The Hosts proved to be the stronger by a four point margin and put in a fine display of team football. Well done to all. Cappawhite 5-03, Golden 3-4. Cappawhite U/12 footballers travelled to Golden on Thursday last to contest this 5th round of this league competition. Well done to the Cappa lads on their 5 point winning margin. Cappawhite now go on to contest the league semi-final against Lattin on Thursday evening next. Venue to be confirmed.
