Roscrea Ramblers

Last weekend, there was only one walk – an intermediate walk to Glendine in the Sliabh Blooms, led by Mick Fogarty. This was a 10 klm walk through the Glendine Gap which led to Ard Erin, the highest point of the Sliabh Blooms. The group mostly consisted of short walk members who enjoyed this “more strenuous” walk. There are no walks this weekend, being a Bank Holiday weekend. So, walks will resume on the 3rd of November. The AGM of the Ramblers will take place on Wednesday the 23rd of October at 8pm in Kelly O’Rourkes – back area – please attend. Anyone thinking of trying out walks with the Ramblers can join us for two walks without paying membership – just to see if you like it. (www.roscrearamblers.com)

Roscrea Comhaltas

The Comhaltas tour of Ireland concert takes place in the Brú Ború Cultural Centre, Cashel on Friday next October 25th at 8pm. Tickets at €12 are available from Pat Flanagan, Roscrea (086 8317821). This promises to be a night of top-class entertainment featuring the very best of traditional music song and dance and the surroundings in the Brú Ború auditorium are second to none. The site was visited recently by Jimmy Deenihan TD, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht when he officially opened the sounds of history (Glór na gCianta) extension. Each year CCE organises three tour groups for USA, Britain and Ireland. An itinerary is planned in advance and the performers are selected from across the country. Each year the standard surpasses that of the previous year, such is the professionalism of producer Siobhán Ní Chonaráin.
