Last Sunday was a club trip to the River Barrow where some members walked from outside Borris in Carlow to St. Mullins, while the more adventurous took to the water with Charlie Horan’s “Go with the flow river adventures”.
Both groups started from the same location with both completing a c.15 kilometre trip. As the bus left Roscrea, the weather was very poor and didn’t look good for our trip, but as we got near Kilkenny, the skies cleared and the weather was brilliant. Great fun was had on the canoe trip as we navigated weirs and rapids under Charlies watchful eye!
This is a beautiful part of the country and well worth a visit. This Sunday its back on solid ground with the short walk to Upperchurch, led by Keith Stanley, while JJ Bergin will take the long walkers to the Galtees. The new walks list for the next three months is now posted on our website. The Tuesday walks continue – meet in the carpark behind Damer Court at 7pm every week. These walks will be near town and will only take an hour to an hour and a half. For anyone considering taking up hill walking, these walks are a great way to start. Remember, new members must do 2-3 short walks before going on an intermediate or long walk.
