Thurles Town Councillor David Doran has called for an immediate meeting of the Thurles Joint Policing Committee to be held so that issues pertinent to the town can be discussed between public representatives and members of An Garda Siochana.

The Sinn Fein Councillor described how some “gurrier elements” have been causing a lot of trouble around the town with anti social behaviour rampant and he offered the veiw that the correct forum to discuss such issues was at the JPC.

Councillor Jim Ryan added that it was no coincidence that anti social behaviour had increased following the retirement of the councils Tenant Liaison Officer and he encouraged the executive to recruit a replacement if at all possible.

Thurles Town Clerk Mr Michael Ryan said that a number of attempts had been made to arrange a meeting and he would try to have one scheduled for before Christmas. The Tenant Liaison Officer is being sorely missed, he said, but he did not attribute the absence of a TLO to the rise in anti-social behaviour as they are not linked at all.
