Littleton In Bloom - Arriving in Littleton from Thurles via the Mill Road, the visitor is met by around forty beautiful flower arrangements that have been planted and cared for single handedly by local resident Ned Bannon who has also painted and decorated the statues and railings in Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto on the Dublin Road. On the G.A.A. pitch side heather planted last year is coming into bloom. Two beds of double headed immaculate white tulips, now nearing the end of their natural blooming cycle were planted by Tom and Marie Heffernan between Church View and St. Mary’s Church of Ireland. Houses are being painted with many front gardens of a postcard like quality. On the Liskeveen Road around thirty comfrey plants are beginning to bloom with purple flowers, while Fás are caring for the shrubs and trees in Kevins’s Park. Seamus Mason and Alan Melbourne have been busy cutting the roadside grass margins at the “Glas Agus Glan” sign and at Ballymoreen Bridge where the townlands of Ballybeg, Liskeveen and Ballymoreen meet. Cow Parsley also known as Queen Anne’s lace is adding it’s white flower beauty to our country roads. Whitethorn is now at the start of its blooming cycle and will shortly fill our ditches and country roads with an avalanche of white flowers. Children from Littleton N.S. will be walking the Ballybeg and Liskeveen Roads next Thursday, 6th June as a fundraiser and as a nature appreciation walk. Littleton Tidy Towns will shortly be replacing the Spring with Summer flowers on the village flower pots. Thanks to all who through their voluntary work add to the beauty of the village and its surroundings.
